ISACA got its start in 1967, when a small group of
individuals with similar jobs—auditing controls in
the computer systems that were becoming increasingly
critical to the operations of their organizations—sat
down to discuss the need for a centralized source of
information and guidance in the field. In 1969, the
group formalized, incorporating as the EDP Auditors
Association. In 1976 the association formed an education
foundation to undertake large-scale research efforts to
expand the knowledge and value of the IT governance and
control field.
With more than 75,000 members in more than 160 countries,
ISACA® (
www.isaca.org) is a recognized worldwide leader
in IT governance, control, security and assurance.
Founded in 1969, ISACA sponsors international conferences,
publishes the Information Systems Control Journal®, and
develops international information systems auditing and
control standards. It also administers the globally

The ITGI (

, established by the association in 1998,
is designed to be the think tank –
offering presentations at both ISACA and
non-ISACA conferences, publications, and
electronic resources for greater understanding
of the roles and relationship between IT
and enterprise governance.
Together, ISACA and ITGI lead the information
technology community by providing those
elements critical to professionals in a
globally evolving industry: a code of ethics,
research, peer networking, a common body
of knowledge, standards, certification and
education.
